1. Stroke Outline & Median Vectors
Stroke visual outlines and median skeleton paths are powered by the upstream open-source dataset [email protected] (rooted in MakeMeAHanzi and fonts by Arphic Technology).
- Character Coverage: 9,565 Chinese characters and 9 fundamental radical/component symbols.
- Character Typology: Includes Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and rare historical characters. It does not solely consist of mainland simplified characters.
- Licensing & Scope Delineation: As specified by upstream maintainers, code and stroke trajectory datasets are licensed separately:
- Stroke vectors and median paths: Distributed under the Arphic Public License (ARPHIC PL), originating from Arphic Technology's 1999 open-source fonts and MakeMeAHanzi;
- Rendering engines and loader code: Distributed under the MIT License.
2. Standard Stroke Order Codification
Stroke sequences, counts, and stroke names for standard mainland Chinese characters are referenced against the official language standard issued by the Ministry of Education of the PRC:

Scope of Applicability: Strictly applies to the 8,105 standardized characters codified in the Table of General Standard Chinese Characters (通用规范汉字表).

Boundary Transparency: For rare, archaic, or non-standard characters outside GF 0023-2020, OpenHanzi retains the open-source stroke animation for educational lookup while explicitly labeling it as "source-only / neutral fallback", avoiding unsubstantiated claims of statutory standardization.
3. Dictionary Definitions & Translations
- CC-CEDICT: English definitions, pinyin romanizations, and vocabulary entries are utilized under the CC BY-SA 4.0 license.
- Autonomous Practice Ladders: Graded exercise ladders covering 3,500 common characters are organized autonomously for progressive learning and handwriting practice, not officially accredited curriculum tables from the Ministry of Education, and do not restrict the 9,565-character lookup scope.
- Pedagogical Learning Content: Educational mnemonics, example sentences, and bilingual explanations are subject to independent editorial review. Unreviewed drafts are strictly withheld.
4. Website Analytics & Privacy Disclosures
The openhanzi.com public website utilizes basic aggregated web analytics (Baidu Tongji) to monitor pageviews and site uptime. The site does not submit user accounts, search queries, or children's profiles to analytics services, and website telemetry is completely decoupled from the iOS application.
